Welcome to the Maker’s Retreat House in Oberlin, Ohio. We provide an unparalleled retreat experience for artists, quilters and crafter’s alike. We wanted to create a space for like-minded makers to gather for a few days of uninterrupted creativity and comaraderie. We offer a cozy, comfortable, light filled home, with space to sleep a small group (up to 8). This is intended to be a true retreat – a quiet place to spend time watching the birds and other woodland creatures – a place to reflect, to be inspired, to create, to be quiet, and to recharge. Details matter, and what makes us unique is our attention to details – like having a dedicated studio space, with enough lights, outlets and ironing stations to comfortably host up to 8 makers at once. We have a full living room, dining area and kitchen as well as a nook upstairs when you’re wanting to take a break from the crafting to read or visit with your friends.

The check-in times for retreats is 3 PM on the first day of your booking. We require a minimum of a 3-night stay, but you’re welcome to stay longer! Check-out time is at 11 AM on the last day of your booking. During your stay, you’ll have exclusive access to all that the Maker’s Retreat House has to offer for you and up to 7 other guests.

Frequently asked questions

Is this retreat house for crafters only, or can others use the facility?The Makers Retreat House was designed as a space for like-minded makers to gather and create as a community. We do not advertise on Airbnb, VRBO, or other vacation platforms, as this is not our purpose.

How many people can attend?

We can accommodate up to 8 guests. We have 4 bedrooms, with 2 beds per room. Our studio has 8 crafting tables so everyone has a dedicated space to work on their projects.

Is there a minimum number of nights required to book a retreat?

Yes, there is a three-night minimum.

What is the cost to rent the Maker’s Retreat House?
We have flat rate rental pricing, as shown below. No additional fees, taxes, etc. We can house a total of 8 guests. The rate does not change if your group has fewer than 8 guests.

Is a deposit required?

A $400 deposit is required to hold your reservation. This deposit will be credited towards the cost of your stay.

When is the balance due?
The balance of the reservation is due 30 days prior to the arrival date.

What are check-in and check-out times?
Check-in in at 3 PM on the first day of your stay, and check-out is at 11 AM on the last day of your stay.

What is available in the studio?

8 tables, each with a rolling chair, trash can, and electrical outlets.
2 dedicated ironing stations – each with its own steam iron.
A large cutting table with mats, various rulers, and a rotary cutter.
Cork strips on three walls to hang projects or flannel to act as a design wall.
A wall-mounted WiFi equipped Fire TV.
Supplemental lamps, if needed.

Can I bring my pet?Regretfully, pets are not allowed. Service animals are welcome.

How can our group book a retreat?
One person in your group will act as the liaison for the entire group. We aren’t able to take payments from multiple guests on the same reservation. The group liaison can book online by selecting dates, signing the short-term rental agreement, and submitting the deposit.

Are their steps to navigate?
Yes, there are steps from the front walkway to get up to the front porch. There are steps inside the studio to get into the house. There is a full stairway inside the house to get from the first floor to second story.

What about meals?

Guests can utilize the fully equipped kitchen to prepare meals. Bring your own food, or shop at local grocery stores. There is a Walmart and an Aldi within 2 miles. Alternatively, there are several wonderful restaurants in Oberlin and Wellington.

Are alcoholic beverages allowed?

Guests may bring alcohol to enjoy during their stay

Is smoking allowed?
We are a smoke-free property.

Is the retreat house available to rent for a single day?

Yes, we are willing to work with you to book single day use. Please contact us to discuss dates, pricing, and other details.

We have four bedrooms, with 2 beds in each room. There are 3 queen beds and 5 twin beds. 3 bedrooms are on the second floor and the fourth is on the first floor.
